The recent ICE webinar “When The Radiologist Is Not Available: Improving Confidence In Non-Radiological Environments With Dual-Energy Subtraction” was sponsored by KA Imaging. It was approved for 1.0 ARRT Category A CE credit by the AHRA.
There are point of care settings within hospitals where access to a high-performance medical monitor is limited. In the webinar, Dr. Karim S. Karim and Jay Potipcoe discussed single-exposure dual-energy technology and how it can increase confidence in now-radiological environments, without adding extra reading time. They presented the results of a study that measured the performance of different readers while reading digital radiography (DR) and compared it to how they performed when dual-energy (DE) images were given. For those unfamiliar with the technique, the presenters provided a brief overview on dual-energy subtraction (DES) X-ray, the limitations of the old DES techniques and how single-exposure SpectralDR technology can overcome these limitations. They also discussed the clinical benefits enabled by dual-energy in the early detection of small nodules identification, pneumonia, pneumothorax and coronary calcifications.
Attendees were also able to gather additional insights during a question-and-answer session. One question was, “What is the benefit of using spectral IDR when you can always request further testing to confirm diagnosis?”
Karim said, “The main benefit of spectral DR comes when the patient is not easily moved.” He provided additional information and then opened the question up to Potipcoe for more insights.
Another question asked about using his technology for conditions such as an ACL tear.
The complete Q&A is available via the on-demand recording of the webinar at ICEwebinars.live.
Attendees provided feedback about the webinar in a survey that included the question, “Why do you join ICE webinars?”
“For extra knowledge and awareness in relation to my field,” said Ansherina Balidoy, radiologic technologist at Emilio Aguinaldo College.
“Mostly CEUs and to educate myself on technological advances in all areas of diagnostic imaging,” shared Jen Sturm, certified nuclear medicine technologist at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center.
“Received an email announcing the presentation. I have attended other ICE webinars and they are ALWAYS relevant and presented well,” said Nancy Godby, director of radiology at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
