Across America, the past few years have seen the social and cultural issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) elevated to a prominence comparable to the Civil Rights era of the 1960s. Institutions from law and government to business, athletics, the arts – and, of course, health care – have all striven to address long-held assumptions and implicit biases within their work.

Madison Hospital Radiologic Technologist Rachel Ammons, ARRT, is this month’s Rising Star. The Alabama native grew up in Springville before attending college at Southern Union State Community College in the small town of Wadley.

Kernesha Weatherly is vice president of imaging at the New Orleans, Louisiana-headquartered Ochsner Health System, which spans 40 hospitals, 60 private care clinics, and even more freestanding centers throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

For as much thought as goes into providing optimal patient experiences in health care from the perspectives of health outcomes and quality of care, management of revenue streams seldom seems to enter the conversation.

Medical imaging modalities and the patient-specific information they provide continue to be increasingly integrated in nearly every aspect of medicine, from diagnostic applications to treatment planning to surgical interventions.
