Jefferson Radiology Dedicates Office to COVID-19 Patients

Jefferson Radiology announced today it is dedicating one of its imaging centers entirely to patients whose health has been directly impacted by COVID-19. Their West Hartford location opened its doors today, Monday, April 27th at 8:30 am for patients who are either under investigation for COVID-19, are symptomatic with a cough, fever, shortness of breath, or are past the 14 day recovery phase of the illness. Until now, these patients had no other option in Connecticut to receive critical imaging care outside of a hospital environment.

“Radiology practices across the nation have been forced to reduce their services and limit care to patients who are asymptomatic in order to protect their communities from the spread of COVID-19. We have been working around the clock with our clinical teams to prepare a COVID-19 symptom friendly center in which both patients and staff can feel safe,” said Ryan Mullin, Regional Vice-President of Operations at Jefferson Radiology.

Jefferson Radiology has put a series of critical safety measures into place to protect patients and staff, while mitigating the risk of spread. These include:

  • limiting facility access only to patients and staff, with non-caretaker visitors being asked to wait in their vehicles
  • ensuring all patients and staff are screened and masked prior to entry
  • having a greeter welcome patients and direct them to their appropriate care area
  • disinfecting rooms and equipment in-between exams using products registered by the environmental protection agency (EPA) that are effective against COVID-19, and
  • thoughtfully planning out the examination schedule to ensure effective social distancing.

To continue to protect patients and staff, Jefferson Radiology is not admitting patients with a known, active case of COVID-19.

“This pandemic presents an unprecedented challenge to healthcare delivery systems everywhere. We want to make sure we are doing everything we can to provide all of our patients – regardless of their health status – with the care they need. Our response to this pandemic is constantly evolving and through painstaking preparation and careful planning, we look forward to offering our community the next step in patient care,” said Ethan Foxman, M.D., President and CEO of Jefferson Radiology. “Employees across our organization, including our physicians, technologists, medical staff and administrators, are standing up and volunteering to accept this challenge and help our community through this. It’s been one of my proudest moments as a leader of this organization.”

The COVID-19 symptom friendly imaging center is located at 941 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT and will offer CT scan and x-ray appointments. For more information, visit jeffersonradiology.com/COVID-19-Center.
