Rick Majzun has been named vice president and chief operating officer of Stanford Children’s Health, which includes Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.

The Stanford, California-based Stanford Children’s Health named Rick Majzun its VP and COO. Majzun was most recently president and COO of Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island; he has been VP of operations at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and VP of Women & Infants for Barnes Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Majzun holds a master’s degree in Health Care Administration from Washington University in St. Louis.

 

The San Diego, California-based Epic Sciences, Inc. named Joel Smith its general counsel and EVP of corporate development. Smith has been a senior executive and general counsel for BioQ, Triad Therapeutics, and Sientra, Inc. He most recently was managing counsel at Qualcomm Life. Smith has a Juris Doctorate and MBA, both from the University of Michigan.

 

Ruth Ann Rigby

BRC Recovery Family of Programs (BRC) of Austin, Texas named Ruth Ann Rigby its Chief Development Officer. The former Director of Business Development at Capstone Treatment Center, Rigby has served on the boards of the Mississippi Association of Drug Court Professionals, the Central Mississippi Chapter of the National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependency, the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals, the American Diabetes Association, the National Alliance for Mental Illness, and the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers.

 

Manish Patel

Jumptuit Health of New York, New York added Vivian Lopez-Blanco to its board of directors. Lopez-Blanco is the former CFO and treasurer of Mednax Inc.

 

The Fort Worth, Texas-based Civitas Senior Living promoted exeutive director Bobby Lane to Chief Wellness Officer. Lane is a Licensed Massage Therapist (L.M.T.), Registered Nurse (R.N.), and Clinical Nurse Leader (C.N.L) with a Master of Science in Nursing.

 

Debora Spar

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. of Waltham, Massachusetts has named Debora Spar to its board of directors. Spar is a professor of business administration at Harvard Business School; she has been president of Barnard College, president and CEO of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and the Spangler Family Professor at Harvard Business School for 17 years.

Ethos of Boston, Massachusetts named Valerie Frias its CEO, succeeding the retiring Dale Mitchell, effective September 13, 2019.

 

MediSpend of Portsmouth, New Hampshire promoted president and COO Craig Hauben to CEO. Hauben formerly was EVP of Coding Business at Ciox Health, and has been COO of ArroHealth. He is also a trustee at the HGH Foundation, an advisory board member at WiderCircle, and a board member for Partners for Biliteracy.

 

John Lewis, Executive Director, Heart Valve Voice US

The Washington, D.C.-based Heart Valve Voice US added John Lewis as its Executive Director. Lewis most recently headed his own health communications and advocacy consultancy, Intersect Strategies, LLC. He has also held management positions with the Association of Clinical Research Organizations, and has a master’s degree in communication from American University.

 

The Washington, D.C.-based Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) has added Bristol-Myers Squibb Chairman and CEO Giovanni Caforio as chair of its board of directors. Caforio had previously been chair-elect of the board; he succeeds the retiring Olivier Brandicourt, CEO at Sanofi.

 

The Catalyst Health Network of Plano, Texas has named Jeffery Bullard its Chief Medical Officer. Bullard designed MaxHealth Family, Internal and Sports Medicine in Colleyville and founded Acuity Brain Center.

 

Maximilian Muenke

The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) of Bethesda, Maryland named Maximilian Muenke its new CEO. Muenke is a physician-scientist who spent a decade with the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Since 2000, he has been Senior Investigator, Head of the Human Development Section, and Chief of the Medical Genetics Branch at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

 

Scott Magnano

The Scottsdale, Arizona-based Medicx Media Solutions named Scott Magnano its new CFO. Magnano joins the company from CNA National Warranty, where he was AVP for financial planning and analysis; he has previously been director of financial planning and analysis at LifeLock.

 

AbCellera of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada named Tryn Stimart its general counsel and Andrew Booth its CFO. Stimart joins the company from Gibbons P.C., and has also been legal counsel at Finnegan LLP., Cooley LLP., and Womble Bond Dickinson LLP. Booth joins the company from STEMCELL Technologies, where he has been VP of Instrumentation, CFO, and Chief Commercial Officer. Prior to STEMCELL, he was based in London leading mergers and acquisitions for GE Healthcare. He will step down from the company’s board of directors with the assumption of his new position.

 

Herman McKenzie

The Joint Commission of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois named Herman McKenzie director of its Department of Engineering Standards Interpretation Group. McKenzie worked previously in facilities management and biomedical engineering roles at several health care facilities in the Chicago area. He has more than 25 years of experience in health care and an MBA from Governors State University.

 

SHINE Medical Technologies of Janesville, Wisconsin named Harrie Buurlage VP of its European operations. Buurlage formerly was COO and then managing director of NRG, has been global director of manufacturing for Covidien USA, and spent nearly 15 years at Mallinckrodt.
