The Greater Houston area encompasses 9 counties along the Gulf Coast in southeastern Texas and is home to approximately 6.5 million people. This area includes the Texas Medical Center (TMC), which is the largest medical complex in the world, and Galveston, a coastal resort city and port on Galveston Island. The region is prone to hurricanes and catastrophic flooding events which have greatly impacted the medical community there. In this session we will regale you with stories of recent storms and flooding events to attract your attention; but most importantly we will discuss the roles planning, preparation, and sometimes blind luck played in the events so that you can be prepared when a natural disaster strikes.
