Under “normal” circumstances, imaging leaders are productive junkies. We are busy with quality and safety initiatives, reviewing budgets, leading research, building high reliability organizations, supporting the team, providing patient-centric care, and doing all we can to ensure a productive and efficient operation. It appears that leaders are programmed to work more in our industry or it could be the mere tradition of Western culture to support work alcoholics. More and more, we are tied to our phones and emails 24/7, constantly “on.”

We have all heard the horror stories about the tragedy that can occur when our MRI safety program fails. Whether it is due to human error, equipment malfunction, misinformation, or negligence, one event is too many.

After COVID-19 disintegrated the last two years of my budget, I still try to determine what tools are available for predictive analysis when it seems like the unknown is now the only known we can confidently predict! 

After a busy, chaotic day in the imaging department, have you ever stopped and wondered how you made it through?

It is difficult as a leader to come up with creative solutions to keep our teams fired up about the important work they are doing.

As artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged and will progress to make image production and interpretation more standardized and efficient, I would like to make a point regarding the emotional intelligence that will never be replaced by a computer.
